βαθμός, βαθμου, ὁ (from the obsolete βάω equivalent to βαίνω, like σταθμός (from ἵστημι), threshold, step; of a grade of dignity and wholesome influence in the church (R. V. standing), 1Ti 3:13 (cf. Ellicott at the passage). (Used by (the Sept. 1Sa 5:5; 2Ki 20:9; also Sir 6:36); Strabo (Plutarch), Lucian, Appian, Artemidorus Daldianus (others); cf. Lob. ad Phryn., p. 324.)
