ἀπορέω, ἀπόρω: imperfect 3 person singular ἠπόρει (Mar 6:20 T WH Tr marginal reading); (present middle ἀποροῦμαι); to be ἄπορος (from alpha privative and πόρος a transit, ford, way, revenue, resource), i. e. "to be without resources, to be in straits, to be left wanting, to be embarrassed, to be in doubt, not to know which way to turn"; (imperfect in Mar 6:20 (see above) πολλά ἠπόρει he was in perplexity about many things or much perplexed (cf. Thucydides 5, 40, 3; Xenophon, Hell. 6, 1, 4; Herodotus 3, 4; 4, 179; Arlstot. meteorolog. 1, 1); elsewhere) middle, to be at a loss with oneself, be in doubt; not to know how to decide or what to do, to be perplexed: absolutely 2Co 4:8; περί τίνος, Luk 24:4 L T Tr WH; περί τίνος τίς λέγει, Joh 13:22; ἀποροῦμαι ἐν ὑμῖν I am perplexed about you, I know not how to deal with you, in what style to address you, Gal 4:20; ἀπορούμενος ἐγώ εἰς (T Tr WH omit εἰς) τήν περί τούτου (τούτων L T Tr WH) ζήτησιν I being perplexed how to decide in reference to the inquiry concerning him (or these things), Act 25:20.
