στρατιώτης, στρατιωτου, ὁ (from στράτιος ((cf. στρατεύω)), like ἡλιώτης, κλοιωτης, ἠπειρώτης), from Herodotus down, a (common) soldier: Mat 8:9; Mar 15:16; Luk 23:36; Joh 19:2; Act 10:7; Act 12:4, etc.; with the addition of Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ, metaphorically, a champion of the cause of Christ, 2Ti 2:3.
