σποδός, σποδοῦ, ἡ, from Homer down, ashes: Heb 9:13; ἐν σάκκῳ καί σποδῷ κάθημαι, to sit clothed in sackcloth and covered with ashes (exhibiting the tokens of grief, cf. Jon 3:6; Isa 58:5; Isa 61:3; Jer 6:26; Est 4:1; Est 4:3; 1Ma 3:47; cf. σάκκος, b.): Mat 11:21; Luk 10:13.
