σανδάλιον, σανδαλιου, τό (diminutive of σάνδαλον (which is probably a Persian word; cf. Vanicek, Fremdwörter, under the word)), a sandal, a sole made of wood or leather, covering the bottom of the foot and bound on with thongs: Mar 6:9; Act 12:8. (Herodotus, Josephus, Diodorus, Aelian, Herodian, others; for ðÇòÇì in Isa 20:2; Jdt 10:4 Jdt 16:9. (In the Sept. and Josephus σανδάλιον and ὑπόδημα are used indiscriminately; cf. Isa 20:2; Jos 5:15; Josephus, b. j. 6, 1, 8.)) Cf. Winers RWB, under the word Schuhe; Roskoff in Schenkel 5:255; (Kamphausen in Riehm, p. 1435ff; B.
