ἀνατέλλω; 1 aorist ἀνετειλα; perfect ἀνατεταλκα;
a. transitive, to cause to rise: τόν ἥλιον, Mat 5:45 (of the earth bringing forth plants, Gen 3:18; of a river producing something, Homer, Iliad 5, 777).
b. intransitive, to rise, arise: light, Mat 4:16 (Isa 58:10); the sun, Mat 13:6; Mar 4:6; Mar 16:2; Jas 1:11; the clouds, Luk 12:54; φωσφόρος, 2Pe 1:19. tropically, to rise from, be descended from, Heb 7:14. The earlier Greeks commonly used ἀνατέλλειν of the sun and moon, and ἐπιτέλλειν of the stars; but Aelian, Pausanias, Stobaeus, and other later writings neglect this distinction; see Lob. ad Phryn., p. 124f. (Compare: ἐξανατέλλω.)
