1. dues paid for work; wages, hire: Rom 4:4 (κατά ὀφείλημα); in a prov., Luk 10:7 and 1Ti 5:18; Mat 20:8; Jas 5:4; Jud 1:11 (on which see ἐκχέω, at the end); μισθός ἀδικίας, wages obtained by iniquity, Act 1:18; 2Pe 2:15 (cf. Winer’s Grammar, § 30, 1 a.).

2. reward: used — of the fruit naturally resulting from toils and endeavors, Joh 4:36; 1Co 9:18; — of divine recompense:

a. in both senses, rewards and punishments: Rev 22:12.
