ἰσχυρός, ἰσχυρά, ἰσχυρόν (ἰσχύω) (from Aeschylus down), the Sept. mostly for àÅì, âÄÌáÌåø, çÈæÈ÷, òÈöåÌí, and Chaldean úÇÌ÷ÄÌéó; strong, mighty;
a. of living beings: strong either in body or in mind, Mat 12:29; Mar 3:27; Luk 11:21; Rev 5:2; Rev 10:1; Rev 18:21; ἐν πολέμῳ, mighty i. e. valiant, Heb 11:34, cf. Rev 19:18; of one who has strength of soul to sustain the assaults of Satan, 1Jn 2:14; universally strong, and therefore exhibiting many excellences, 1Co 4:10 (opposed to ἀσθενής); comparitive, Mat 3:11; Mar 1:7; Luk 3:16; mighty, — of God, 1Co 1:25; Rev 18:8 (Deu 10:17; 2Ma 1:24, etc.); of Christ raised to the right hand of God, 1Co 10:22; of those who wield great influence among men by their rank, authority, riches, etc., τά ἰσχυρά equivalent to τούς ἰσχυρούς (on the neuter cf.
