ἔξωθεν, adverb (from ἔξω, opposed to ἔσωθεν from ἔσω; cf. ἄνωθεν, πόρρωθεν), from without, outward (cf. Winer’s Grammar, 472 (440));
1. adverbially: (outwardly), Mat 23:27; Mar 7:18; 2Co 7:5; τό ἔξωθεν, the outside, the exterior, Mat 23:25; Luk 11:39 f; ἐκβάλλειν ἔξωθεν (for R G ἔξω), Rev 11:2 b L T Tr WH; οἱ ἔξωθεν for οἱ ἔξω, those who do not belong to the Christian church, 1Ti 3:7; (cf. Mar 4:11 WH marginal reading and under the word ἔξω, 1 a.); ὁ ἔξωθεν κόσμος the outward adorning, 1Pe 3:3.
