(the Sept. for ùÉÑôÅè; in Greek writings (Aeschylus and) Herodotus on.) [SYNONYMS: δικαστής, κριτής: according to etymol. and classic usage δικαστής is the more dignified and official term; κριτής gives prominence to the mental process, whether the ’judge’ be a magistrate or not.
