אַרְפַּכְשַׁד proper name, masculine 3rd son of Shem ׳ א Gen 10:22; Gen 10:24; Gen 11:12; Gen 11:13; 1Chr 1:17; 1Chr 1:18; 1Chr 1:24 אַרְפַּכְשָׁ֑ד Gen 11:10; Gen 11:11 doubtless a geographic name (derivation & meaning dubious, Thes derives from [untranscribed source text 421] boundary (stem [untranscribed source text 422] define, limit), compare also Ethiopic [untranscribed source text 423] wall, + כשׁד = כֶּשֶׂד, i.e. Chaldean ; so Schr^{COT Gen 10:22} who identifies with Babylonia (compare Gen 11:12f. & אוּר כַּשְׂדִּים Gen 11:28 Gen 11:31); see another interpretations Dl^{Pa 255}; according to most = Arrapachitis on Upper Zab, northeast from Nineveh, Assyrian Arba—a , Armen.
