גָּפְרִית noun feminine brimstone (Aramaic גּוּפְרִיתָא, also כבריתא, כובריתא , [untranscribed source text 980], [untranscribed source text 981]; Arabic [untranscribed source text 982] (certainly foreign word); derived from (כֹּפֶר), גֹּפֶר by Thes Rob-Ges, compare Di Gen 6:14 i.e. pitch, and then other combustibles, especially sulphur; Lagl.c. thinks from Bactrian vohûkereti ) — גָּפְרִית Gen 19:24 + 6 t. — brimstone, after הִמְטִיר Gen 19:24 ( J ), figurative of judgment Ps 11:6; Ezek 38:22 (in all || אֵשׁ etc.), compare also Job 18:15; Isa 34:9, & Deut 29:22 ׳ נַחַל ג simile for the destroying breath of ׳ י Isa 30:33.
