νοέω, νόω; 1 aorist ἐνόησα; (present passive participle (neuter plural) νωυμενα); (νοῦς); from Homer down; the Sept. for äÇáÄéï and äÄúÀáÌåðÅï, and for äÄùÀÒëÄÌéì;

1. to perceive with the mind, to understand: absolutely, with the addition τῇ καρδία, Joh 12:40 (Isa 44:18); with an accusative of the thing, Eph 3:4; Eph 3:20; 1Ti 1:7; passive: Rom 1:20; followed by ὅτι, Mat 15:17; Mat 16:11; Mar 7:18; followed by an accusative with an infinitive, Heb 11:3; the absolute equivalent to to have understanding: Mat 16:9; Mar 8:17.
