Κλήμης (cf. Buttmann, 16f (15)), Κλήμεντος, ὁ, Clement, a companion of Paul and apparently a member of the church at Philippi: Php 4:3. According to the rather improbable tradition of the catholic church, he is identical with that Clement who was bishop of Rome toward the close of the first century; (but see Lightfoot’s Commentary on Philippians, at the passage cited, ’Detached Note’; Salmon in Dict. of Chris. Biogr. i., 555f).
