ἀμάραντος, (from μαραίνω; cf. ἀμίαντος, ἄφαντος, etc.), not fading away, unfading, perennial; Vulg.immarcescibilis: (hence, the name of the flower (Dioscorides (?) 4, 57, others); see ἀμαράντινος): 1Pe 1:4. Found elsewhere only in Wis 6:13; (ζωή ἀμάραντος Sibylline 8, 411; Boeckh, Corp. Inscriptions ii., p. 1124, no. 2942 c, 4; Lucian, Dom. c. 9).
