Κάϊν (WH Κάϊν (cf. ´, at the end)), , indeclinable (in Josephus with a Greek ending, Καις, Καιτος; Hebrew ÷ÇéÄï i. e. a spear, although the author of Genesis, , derives it from ÷ÈðÈä to produce, beget, acquire, so that it is equivalent to ÷ÄðÀéÈï, Psa 104:24 (cf. B. D. American edition under the word)), Cain, the fratricide, the first-born son of Adam: Heb 11:4; 1Jn 3:12; Jud 1:11.
