εὐεργέτης, Αὐεργέτου, ὁ, a benefactor (from Pindar and Herodotus down); it was also a title of honor, conferred on such as had done their country service, and upon princes; equivalent to Sorer, Pater Patriae: Luk 22:25. (Cf.
