Practice Assignments

These exercises train the method by genre. They should be used after the student has learned the basic flow but before attempting heavy teaching preparation.

Narrative Practice

Mark 2:1-12. Retell the scene, identify characters, trace conflict, and write the main point.

Poetry Practice

Psalm 23. Mark parallelism, imagery, movement, and worship response.

Epistle Practice

Ephesians 2:8-10. Trace grammar, argument, doctrine, and application.

Parable Practice

Luke 10:25-37. Identify occasion, audience, reversal, main point, and required response.

Prophecy Practice

Isaiah 53:4-6. Mark poetic structure, servant theme, near/far significance, and theological claim.

Apocalyptic Practice

Revelation 1:9-20. Observe symbols, Old Testament background, vision structure, and Christ-centred message.

Final Integrated Study

Student-selected literary unit. Complete whole flow: book context, unit chart, interpretation, cross-references, application, source use, and teaching outline.

How to complete each assignment

  1. Read the passage several times.
  2. Write observations first.
  3. Answer interpretation questions from context.
  4. Use genre rules.
  5. Write a short application that comes from the main point.
  6. Use resources and commentaries only after your own work.
