Τρῳάς, and (so L T WH (see Iota and references in Pape, Eigennamen, under the word)) Τρῳάς, Τρῳάδος, (on the article with it see Winers Grammar, § 5, b.), Troas, a city near the Hellespont, formerly called Ἀντιγονεια Τρῳάς, but by Lysimachus Ἀλεξάνδρεια ἡ Τρῳάς in honor of Alexander the Great; it flourished under the Romans (and with its environs was raised by Augustus to acolonia juris italici, ’the Troad’; cf. Strabo 13, 1, 26; Pliny, 5, 33): Act 16:8; Act 16:11; Act 20:5; 2Co 2:12; 2Ti 4:13. (B. D. under the word.)
