"simple_summary": "God tells the exiles in Babylon to settle in for a long stay, seek the good of the city, and reject false prophets who promise a quick end to their suffering. He promises restoration after seventy years, but he also warns that those who speak lies in his name will be judged.",
"simple_explanation": "Jeremiah writes to the exiles as a word from the Lord. They must not live as if their exile will end at once. Instead, they are to build houses, plant gardens, marry, have children, and live faithfully where God has placed them.\n\nThey are also to seek the welfare of Babylon and pray for it. The Lord is in control even there, so the exiles’ own welfare is tied to the city’s peace.\n\nBut they must not listen to prophets, dreams, or claims of divine messages that were not sent by the Lord. Those voices are false. They promise what God has not promised.\n\nThe Lord says the exile will last seventy years. Only after that will he restore his people. His promise is real, but it is tied to his appointed time and to sincere seeking of him with the whole heart.\n\nThe chapter also warns the people in Jerusalem. They had ignored the Lord’s word, so severe judgment would come on them. The false prophets Ahab, Zedekiah, and Shemaiah are named and condemned because they spoke lies in God’s name and led people into rebellion.\n\nThis passage teaches patience, obedience, prayer, and truthfulness under God’s discipline. It also warns that speaking for God without his authority is a serious sin.",

"gods_plan_connection": "God’s plan in this chapter is both judgment and mercy. He disciplines his covenant people through exile, but he does not abandon them. He sets the length of the exile, calls them back to himself, and promises restoration in due time. At the same time, he defends the truth of his word by judging false prophets who speak in his name without his authority.",
"simple_application": "Believers should not build their hope on easy promises or quick fixes. They should live faithfully where God has placed them, work honestly, pray sincerely, and seek the good of their communities. They should also test spiritual claims carefully and reject anything that contradicts God’s word. Hard seasons are not proof that God has forgotten his people.",
