The Lord Reigns Over All

93:1 The Lord reigns! He is robed in majesty, the Lord is robed, he wears strength around his waist. Indeed, the world is established, it cannot be moved. 93:2 Your throne has been secure from ancient times; you have always been king. 93:3 The waves roar, O Lord, the waves roar, the waves roar and crash. 93:4 Above the sound of the surging water, and the mighty waves of the sea, the Lord sits enthroned in majesty. 93:5 The rules you set down are completely reliable. Psalm 93 says that the Lord is already king. He is clothed in majesty and strength. The world stands firm because he reigns. The seas may roar, but they do not threaten his throne. His commands are sure, and holiness fits his house forever.

This psalm begins with a clear announcement: “The Lord reigns.” It is not asking God to start ruling. It is declaring that he already does. He is robed in majesty and strength, like a king fully ready to act.

The psalm says the world is established and cannot be moved. This does not mean that nothing hard will ever happen. It means the world stands secure because God is king.

Then the psalm turns to the sea. The waves roar and crash. In the Bible, the sea often pictures noisy, threatening power. But the Lord is higher than the flood. He sits enthroned in majesty above it all.

The final verse says that God’s rules are completely reliable. His word can be trusted. It also says that holiness belongs in his house forever. God’s rule is not only powerful. It is holy. His worship must be marked by reverence and purity.

Psalm 93 belongs to Israel’s worship and celebrates the Lord’s kingship over creation and the sanctuary. In the wider Bible, it fits the growing hope that God’s kingdom is unshakable and holy. It points forward to the full and final display of God’s reign with his people in peace.

When life feels unstable, remember that the Lord still reigns. Do not let loud troubles tell you what is most true. Trust God’s word. Worship him with reverence. Let his holiness shape how you come before him.
